Teachers Prepare for Protest, Annual Primary School Exams in Uncertainty

Must read

Although the annual exams in the country’s government primary schools are scheduled to begin from December 8, assistant teachers are already preparing for a movement. They plan to start their program based on three main demands. Whether the program will be suspended depends on the government’s response. Young students are once again facing uncertainty.

The ‘Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council’ has stated that during the movement, proper medical treatment must be ensured for injured teachers, and compensation should be arranged for the family of teacher Fatema Akter, if needed. The death certificate mentions that the teacher died due to illness; however, teachers have alleged that she was injured by a police sound grenade.

Teacher leaders will hold a press conference tomorrow, Friday (November 21), at the National Press Club to formally present their demands to the government. Shamsuddin Masud, convener of the Primary Assistant Teachers’ Unity Council and central president of the Primary School Assistant Teachers’ Association, stated that they want the three-point demand implemented quickly.

Teachers have mentioned that their pay grade issue may be presented to the ministry this Sunday. If the government takes satisfactory action, the movement will be suspended. Otherwise, a stricter program, such as a strike, may be launched.
