A Jamaat activist was detained in Hatiya, Noakhali, over allegations of raping a 9-year-old third-grade student.
The accused, Md Helal Uddin, was reportedly caught by locals and handed over to police after a video of the alleged incident spread on social media.
Locals said Helal had faced a local arbitration just 19 days earlier over an allegation of sexually abusing another child. He was reportedly fined Tk 10,000 and given 50 lashes in that incident.
Police said the child’s mother is preparing to file a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The child will also undergo a medical examination.
