The UK chapter of Bangladesh Awami League celebrated the 77th founding anniversary of the party with a colourful rally, discussion meeting and grand gathering, attended by a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis.
A major highlight of the programme was the disciplined and well-organised procession of UK Chhatra League, led by Shehab Hossain Jebin and Russell Ahmed Khan Suhel, which drew widespread praise from participants and community members.
Hundreds of leaders, activists and supporters joined the rally carrying national and party flags, banners and festoons before taking part in the main anniversary gathering organised by the UK Awami League.
Speakers said Bangladesh Awami League, founded on June 23, 1949, has played a historic role in the Language Movement, the Liberation War, and the democratic struggles of Bangladesh. They also highlighted the party’s contributions to the country’s development under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Addressing the event, Shehab Hossain Jebin said the Awami League’s 77-year journey is one of “struggle, sacrifice and achievement,” while Russell Ahmed Khan Suhel called the founding anniversary “a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s political history.”
The programme ended with special prayers for the peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh, as leaders expressed hope for the continued success of the party and the country’s democratic advancement.
