A youth named Md. Ishtiaque Ahmed Pranto has died in custody just hours after being detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur. He passed away on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The deceased, Pranto, was a resident of the Gondardia area under Madhukhali municipality and was reportedly involved in local Chhatra League politics.
Family’s Claim
The family claimed that members of the law enforcement agency picked him up from his residence late at night. They were later informed of his death by the hospital authorities in the morning.
Police Statement
On the other hand, police stated that Pranto was detained with narcotics during a drive. He was then taken to the DB office for legal proceedings, where he fell ill. As his physical condition deteriorated, he was initially admitted to a local hospital and later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he passed away.
According to the police, the body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. While it is initially suspected that he died due to illness, officials noted that nothing can be confirmed until the final autopsy report is available.
