Police today recovered the body of a seven-year-old schoolgirl from a jute field in Taraganj upazila, Rangpur, a day after she went missing. A murder case has been filed in connection with the incident, and an investigation is underway.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjida Akter, a second-grade student at a local government primary school. She was the daughter of Saidul Islam, a resident of Bhimpur Koranipara village under Alampur union.
According to police and family sources, Sanjida had been missing since Friday afternoon. After she failed to return home, her family launched an extensive search, checking the homes of relatives and neighbors. They also made announcements using loudspeakers throughout the locality. Local residents joined the family in an overnight search effort but found no trace of her.
The breakthrough came at around 1:30 PM today when local farmers spotted her body in a jute field adjacent to the Teesta Irrigation Canal, located roughly 200 meters from her residence.
Monser Ali, a local farmer, noted that the child had been seen playing normally in the area on Friday morning.
Upon receiving information, a team from the Taraganj Police Station recovered the body and dispatched it to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Speaking to reporters, Sanjida’s grieving father, Saidul Islam, demanded swift justice and stated that the family had no known enmities or disputes with anyone in the area.
My daughter was very calm and well-behaved,” Saidul said. “She was brutally murdered and left in a jute field. I want the maximum punishment for the killers.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taraganj Police Station confirmed that the victim’s father formally filed a murder case on Saturday afternoon. Police have launched a full investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
