Trump says Iran peace deal is signed; Full text to be made public soon
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding intended to halt the conflict in the Persian Gulf. The announcement immediately prompted demands from political opponents for the immediate release of the document’s text.
Speaking shortly after arriving in France for the G7 summit, Trump revealed that the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz has already partially reopened following a crippling three-month maritime blockade. “The deal’s all signed,” Trump stated, praising the breakthrough.
While the preliminary agreement is in place, an official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Geneva, Switzerland.
