An incident of gunfire occurred inside a mosque during Fajr prayers in Khulna city, leaving two worshippers—including a leader of the mosque committee—shot and injured. One of the injured is in critical condition and has been sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The incident took place early Sunday morning at a Jame Mosque in the Daulatpur area. The injured have been identified as Lokman Hakim, the secretary of the mosque committee, and Alam Sheikh.
According to local sources and police, several armed individuals entered the mosque while prayers were underway and opened fire, targeting a specific individual. Another person was shot during the incident. Following the attack, the perpetrators quickly fled the scene.
Hearing the gunshots, worshippers and locals rescued the victims and rushed them to Khulna Medical College Hospital. As the physical condition of one of the victims deteriorated while undergoing treatment there, he was transferred to Dhaka.
Police stated that various pieces of evidence have been gathered from the scene, and initiatives have been taken to review CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. An investigation is currently underway to determine the motive behind the attack and to identify those involved.
Law enforcement officials mentioned that they are also examining whether personal or business rivalries are linked to the incident as part of their ongoing investigation.
